The 2004 ghost of the hit song ‘’Jaga Jaga’’ by Eedris Abdulkareem resurfaced in Lagos recently when the rap icon called a press conference to unleash his new project, ‘I Am Nigeria’. He also took the opportunity to drop the first single off the upcoming project titled ‘’Godfather, Godson’’ leaving no one in doubt about his intention to unleash terror on corrupt politicians who are making life difficult for the common man.
‘’godfather, godson’’ is a brazen parody featuring the intrigues between Obasanjo as godfather and Goodluck Jonathan as godson. To my mind, here’s a pretty nice piece of work by the self-styled social crusader which reminds us so much of Junior & Pretty days of one of rap’s defining songs, ‘’Bolanle’’. But I can’t seem to convince myself that this song isn’t a subtle endorsement of Jonathan, now that 2015 is around the corner.
It would be recalled that Eedris got some ass whooping from OBJ some years back for his lyrics in ‘’Jaga Jaga’’ which resulted in a verbal war between the two. It is obvious that he is not done yet with Baba and other corrupt politicians. In 2006, Eedris had a media celebrated altercation with American rapper 50 Cent resulting in him being blacklisted by corporate Nigeria. It would seem that his problems has not ceased ever since, as he’s been trying to score a hit to no avail. We can’t wait to see how far this project which also has a youth oriented social responsibility angle to it goes. As for corrupt politicians, there is no hiding place, Eedris promises.
